Overview

Islam is the second-largest religion worldwide, with approximately 1.9 billion followers called Muslims. Founded by the Prophet Muhammad in the 7th century CE in Arabia, it is based on the Quran, believed to be the direct word of God (Allah) revealed to Muhammad.

The Five Pillars of Islam form the foundation of Muslim life: faith declaration (Shahada), prayer (Salat), charity (Zakat), fasting (Sawm), and pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj).

Islam emphasizes justice, compassion, and submission to God's will. It teaches that all humans are equal before Allah and that daily life should reflect spiritual values.
